Kitchen Designer of the Year 2024 £25 – £50k Winner

Liam Butler

This tech loving couple, who host & cook often, requested an understated yet practical design that allowed the architecture to do the talking. The dark colours contrast and compliment the light walls and oak features of the room.

The island is a U shape, for maximum convenience for the cook, nothing is ever more than a couple of steps away, but it also designates the cook’s zone, there is no reason for anyone to be in the kitchen space, unless they’re using the kitchen.

The island features an anywhere induction hob, with glass draft extractor. And a clad sink and a half, matching the worktop, and complete with a black Quooker tap.

An overhang on two sides of the island provides a breakfast bar for our couple offering stunning panoramic Lake District views, while also allowing plenty of space for social seating of guests, overlooking but not interfering with the host / cook.

The tall units feature high tech Siemens appliances including a larder fridge, larder freezer, vacuum drawer, fully plumbed in steam oven, a full-size combi microwave oven, and a warming drawer.

Gloss black glass fronted doors, sit above and below the Siemens appliances, flush with the larger Dunavox wine chiller which is in the centre. This high-tech square of black gloss is offset with a very dark tobacco oak veneer surrounding it.

Overall, this design blended seamlessly with the room; allowing the kitchen, architecture and views to be appreciated and a feature all in their own right, enhancing the functionality and central nature of this homes heart.
